This week is Celebrate Freedom Week in Texas. During this week, we recognize the basic freedoms that we enjoy as Americans. Each day this week, we will read a famous quote celebrating the U.S. Constitution:
Monday, Sept. 12th: “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.” Patrick Henry Tuesday, Sept. 13th: “The Farmers of the Constitution knew that free speech is the friend of change and revolution. But they also knew that it is always the deadliest enemy of tyranny.” Hugo Black Wednesday, Sept. 14th: “The strength of the Constitution lies entirely in the determination of each citizen to defend it. Only if every single citizen feels duty bound to do his share in this defense are the constitutional rights secure.” Albert Einstein Thursday, Sept. 15th: “If there is any principle of the Constitution that more imperatively calls for attachment than any other it is the principle of free thought, not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought that we hate.” Oliver Wendell Holmes Friday, Sept. 16th: “The happy Union of these States is a wonder; their Constitution a miracle; their example the hope of Liberty throughout the world.” James Madison National Honor Society will begin collecting donation for wildfire victims this week. Items needed include school supplies, toothpaste, diapers, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, and shampoo. There will be boxes located in the Front of the Main Office beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 13th.
