Baby Ian -- 14 month old son of a close friend of Elkins' nurse Jennifer Longoria -- is currently going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy at Texas Children's Hospital for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The rounds of chemotherapy serve to "reboot" Ian's DNA -- something like "rebooting" a computer that has frozen or gone haywire. The "reboots" can result in dangerously low blood counts. Your donateblood may be used to help Ian or other cancer patients until their bone marrow begins to produce blood at full capacity. Students who have not already signed up will be accepted on a walk-in basis as space allows at the time. Thank you, Knights, for generously giving this precious gift of life.
14 month old Ian was diagnosed with leukemia shortly after his first birthday. Currently undergoing chemotherapy at Texas Children’s Hospital, Ian must face lots of needles, pain and blood transfusions. This year, Elkins has partnered with St. Luke’s to do an honorary blood drive in his name on October 30th in the girls gym from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please consider giving blood at the Elkins Blood Drive which is being held in honor of Baby Ian on Tuesday, Oct. from 7:30 to 2:30 p.m. Anyone 17 years of age and older, weighing at least 115 lbs and in general good health may be able to donate. To sign up to donate, please contact [email protected] Walk-ins are also welcome. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for the blood drive for Baby Ian to be held next Tuesday, October 30th. We look forward to seeing everyone there! The clinic will distribute blood drive passes on Monday. On Tuesday, check into class and pick up your pass. You will not be counted absent if leave class with the clinic blood drive pass. Be sure to sign into the log when you arrive at the blood drive and sign out before exiting the gym.
