With one game left in the high school baseball regular season it is easy to call it a must win situation. The tricky part with the playoff race in Fort Bend ISD is that’s not necessarily the case for the four teams fighting for three playoff berths.
The one thing we know for sure is that Clements already has won the outright District 23-5A title and will be the No. 1 seed when it begins defense of its Region III-5A championship. After that it gets a bit more complicated.

Kempner and Elkins are tied for fourth at 11-5. All other teams are eliminated. Dulles and Travis can clinch playoff berths simply by winning their regular season finales on Friday. Kempner and Elkins can do no worse than a tiebreaker game if they win on Friday.
Here is a look at each of Friday’s games that matter.
ELKINS AT DULLES
This is as close to a toss-up as you can get in Fort Bend ISD. You probably have to give the slight edge to Dulles because of its 3-2 record against the other three teams in the running for the playoffs. Elkins, on the other hand, is 1-3. Dulles beat Elkins, 7-4, on April 1. Elkins probably is the better hitting team, but Dulles can swing it, too. The pitching edge has to go to Dulles.
