The JV Boys Soccer team played Austin HS on Friday, here at Elkins ending with a 1-1 tie. Austin scored quickly within the first 10mins of the game which then sparked the defense to perform a shut out for the remainder of the game. The Elkins loan goal came within the final minutes after a perfectly timed assist from Midfielder Daniel Sanchez to set up forward Erden Koese to tie the game.
Goalie Phillip Wedgeworth had a last second diving save to thwart Austin’s last ditch effort to try and take the lead. Other notable performances go out to midfielder Anthony Acosta for a great defensive performance keeping the pressure on anyone who came his way. The Elkins Boys Soccer team tied last night’s match against Bush HS 0-0, eventually winning in penalty kicks 5 to 4. Senior Andrew Wall was the last to shoot his penalty kick to seal the win for the Knights. A great defensive performance by Sophomore Goalie Jose Gallegos lead to the shut out, earning him Player of the Game. The Boy’s soccer team will take on Austin HS this Friday at 5 pm at Mercer Stadium to start the second half of District play.
Carlos Betancourt led the way with 3 goals. Sam Konstanty had 2 assists and Victor Ramagnoli had 1 assist.
