Seniors who are taking Correspondence Courses and Credit by Exams: •Grades need to be registered by May 15. Therefore, if you are in a correspondence course or are planning to get credit by taking an exam, the final must be taken on Saturday, May 7, at 8am here at Elkins. If you are a senior taking a correspondence course or are planning to take a CBE, see your counselor this week so that the tests can be ordered. Other grade levels should plan to take the test that day, but seniors wishing to graduate must take their test on May 7.
College Now Registration opens May 2nd, and Elkins counselors will be in the EHS library on May 5th to assist with the registration/enrollment process. For English IV CN and U.S. Government CN you will follow these steps: 1. Complete the Houston Community College Application for admission online at www.hccs.edu. 2. Provide your 9 digit HCC student ID number to your counselor to get a copy of your TAKS scores and a waiver to take to HCC. Empowering The Next Generation Young was inspired to start the scholarship in efforts to empower and provide opportunities to the next generation of students and leaders. The Scholarship Program The Vince Young Foundation Scholarship program (www.vyfoundation.org) will be awarding 10 Scholarships to graduating seniors in the Houston Metro and Surrounding areas. Who Qualifies? The selection committee is focused on identifying students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills who want to make a positive IMPACT to society and has a vision to succeed regardless of any obstacles that life has put in their way. We are especially interested in recognizing students who give back to their communities and whose goals and desires for education align with their passions. The scholarship check will be made out directly to the institution with instructions to apply the funds to the student’s current account. Awards will include: Min. $1000 per semester (Freshman Year- 2 Semesters), Dorm Room Makeover, Book Stipend, and Full Tuition to Teen Success Summer Leadership Camp. Recipients will also serve as the Foundations’ “Leadership Ambassadors” during the awarded year. Eligibility Criteria 1. Scholarship applicants must be accepted into a program of study at an educational institution, as evidenced by a proof of acceptance. 2. Applicants must be receiving a high school diploma and graduating from a Houston Metro/ Surrounding Area school. 3. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, and/or physical impairment. 4. Applicants must complete the application form and essay requirement and must mail all required materials to the address provided. All materials being submitted for an applicant (application, recommendation letters, current transcript, and essay) must be in one package. All material related to an applicant must note the applicant’s name and email address. The application package must be postmarked no later than Monday, May 2, 2011. No exceptions will be made.
The Spend the Day with the Corps program is an official campus visit to Texas A&M University offered each summer for rising high school juniors and seniors and their parents. The activities throughout the day include:
Dates and Schedule Spend the Day with the Corps is held during the summer. The 2011 program dates are July 29th and August 5th. Registration Approximately 500 parents and students participate in each Spend the Day with the Corps program. To ensure each student has access to the resources and tours, Spend the Day with the Corps requires pre-registration. Please note there is a $25 registration fee, per family. To register and learn about attendance requirements, click on the button above and submit the online registration. Again, the program is open to students who will be juniors or seniors in high school during the 2011-2012 school year (and their families). Once registered, you should receive and return the Spend the Day with the Corps Camp & Enrichment Liability Waiver form to the Corps Recruiting Office. Fall 2011-College Now Courses Offered at Elkins Registration begins May 2nd Fall 2011-Dual Credit Courses Offered at HCC (campus TBD) Registration begins May 2nd Dual Credit Courses-U.S. History, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Economics, Beginning French, Algebra 2 College Now Courses-English 4, U.S. Government Students whose families pay property taxes to support HCCS can take the classes FREE with a voucher provided by the counselors. Some parts of Sienna are not included in the HCCS taxing district but most of our students will qualify. On Thursday, May 5th, counselors will be in the Elkins library to assist with the registration and enrollment process and to issue vouchers. All students who want to take College Now courses in the fall must come to the library that day to register and get a voucher. Students enrolling in summer classes are encouraged to see their counselor earlier since registration has already begun and space is limited. Students currently enrolled in the College Now computer course will not have to complete the enrollment process again but they will have to register for their next class and get a voucher. Vouchers must be submitted to HCC within 24 hours of enrolling in the course online. Counselors will pull TAKS scores and take them to HCC so students will not have to go to HCC until they are enrolled, registered and ready to turn in their voucher. |
