Elkins DECA chapter members earned top medal awards at DECA’s 68th annual International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Ga., May 2nd – May 7th, 2014.
The following students from Elkins High School did an outstanding job representing Elkins, FBISD and Texas DECA --- Amita Batra, Aman Gupte, Mishi Jain, Lillian Wang, Lauren Rainey and Vinit Shah. Students receiving top recognition at the international level were: Mishi Jain: Hotel and Lodging Management -- Yellow Ribbon Medal Mishi Jain: Harry A. Applegate Scholarship $1000 Scholarship The DECA International Career Development Conference was the pinnacle of competition where nearly 17,000 students vied for international honors. Nearly $500,000 in scholarships and awards were presented to students and teachers for their achievements. In addition to career-based competition, DECA members engaged in leadership academies and networking opportunities with over 60 internationally recognized businesses. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition. Elkins High School DECA students advance to International competition in Atlanta, Georgia.2/26/2014 21 DECA leaders did an outstanding job competing with approximately 5,000 other high school students for spots on the Texas DECA team in Dallas, February 20-22.
6 Elkins High School students will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to participate in the DECA International Career Development Conference May 2nd through May 6th. Formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, DECA is an association for marketing students with over 180,000 members around the country. EHS is recognized as one of the largest DECA organizations in the state with over 130 members. “It’s a tremendous honor for our students to represent Elkins and FBISD on a national level and I am so proud of our talented students. Without a doubt, this well-deserved experience will help prepare our students for a future in a highly-competitive, global workforce." - EHS DECA Advisor, Stacy Palmer National qualifiers advancing to Atlanta include the following: Amita Batra, Mishi Jain, Aman Gupte, Lauren Rainey, Lillian Wang and Vinit Shah. Alternate - Medal Winners include: Ami Patel, Jay Shah, Jasmine Luke and Jaison Mathew. EHS DECA did a tremendous job in donating over 100 hats to the Children's Hospital in Dallas. We were awarded "Best Disney Hat." Our chapter was also recognized for being a part of the 100+ club with over 130 members, Make it Count membership drive and a community service project campaign that many DECA members were involved in. #ehsdecamakeitcount Stacy Palmer - EHS Marketing Teacher/DECA Advisor Twenty-one students from the EHS DECA program have advanced to state competition after the district competition held January 17th at The Stafford Centre. DECA is a Career and Technical Education student organization whose mission is to “prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.”

Over 5,000 high school students will compete for a place on the Texas DECA Team and a trip to the International Career Development Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. |
