Emmanuel Peeples is used to getting stares both on and off the stage. The eloquent and talented 17-year-old first joined and fell in love with theater in middle school. He quickly learned that being on stage was more than just an extra curricular pursuit. For Emmanuel, the stage is where he is most comfortable and validated. The stage is where he yearns to be.
Emmanuel and his family moved here from England when he was in the sixth grade. He had much to contend with besides the normal trials and tribulations of being in middle school, especially having moved from another country. He was an outsider.
Even now, Emmanuel gets stared at off stage. That’s because, physically, he looks different. Emmanuel has ocular albinism, a genetic condition that causes a lack of pigment, primarily of the eyes.
