by Corey Roepken Fort Bend ISD has released the 2011 football schedules for District 23-5A. The season begins on Aug. 25 when Dulles, Kempner and Travis play Thursday games. Kempner has the only home game that night as it will host Katy Seven Lakes at Mercer Stadium. Each district team will play three true non-district opponents followed by two district but non-zone opponents. As it has done the last three years, District 23-5A will use a zone format to determine its playoff participants. Each team will play nine games in the first 10 weeks of the regular season. Week 10 will be reserved for the district championship game and zone playoff games. The schedule for week 10 will not be available until week 9 games are contested. This spring the Elkins High School wide receiver is trying to show college coaches he can be a complete football player. Allen burst onto the scene toward the end of his sophomore year and had a productive season in 2010 when he was a known quantity. Now that spring practice is underway, he said he's ready to take the next step. That means turning up his speed when comes out of breaks and creating more separation from cornerbacks. "Spring ball is important," Allen said. "That's when a lot of schools come out. They want to see you working hard, not slacking on the field. I'm being a leader out there."... .READ MORE http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/fort_bend/sports/article_d5f06f42-791d-11e0-8607-001cc4c03286.html Posted: Tuesday, March 8, 2011 10:15 am | Updated: 11:13 am, Tue Mar 8, 2011.
By COREY ROEPKEN Elkins High School’s new head football coach is about as familiar as it gets. Dennis Brantley, the Knights’ offensive coordinator for the last three years, has been on the job for a few weeks. He has retained most of the last year’s assistant coaches, which means the transition should be a breeze. Brantley said not much will change within the program. The Knights still will operate out of a spread offense, and they’ll be aggressive on defense. That’s the approach that has led to playoff appearances each of the last two seasons....READ MORE Fort Bend Sun

Once the Elkins High School National Signing Day ceremony came around, though, Brown's attitude shot right back up to the sky. The senior offensive lineman was one of nine Elkins football players to sign a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. It is the largest class in Fort Bend ISD.....READ MORE |
