It's been an up-and-down season for Hightower and Elkins. They both have three wins and three losses. But whoever losses this game will be on the way down at the wrong time. "I hate to say it like this, but this may be a make-or-break game for whoever loses," Hightower coach Padriac McGinnis said. "If you lose … you may be out of it." That doesn't mean either team will stop fighting after their rivalry showdown at 7 p.m. on Friday at Mercer Stadium. But it'll be an uphill battle for the loser in a tightly contested district race. Elkins' Jonathan Giles grew up around football. His father, Lonzo Giles, played at Yoakum and the University of Houston in the 1970s, and Jonathon's been putting on pads since he was 10 years old. So earning the title of starting quarterback on the varsity team is a dream come true. But his dream quickly turned into a nightmare when the Knights' promising season began with back-to-back losses. Freshman “A” Football Team got their first victory of the season on Wednesday, September 19th, with a dominating 21-6 victory over Westbury. David P had a pick six, Anthony T caused a key fumble, and Ross B dominated the middle. The offense was led by Romellus and Romanon S, the twins gashed the Westbury defense on many occasions with Romellus scoring both offensive touchdowns.
The Freshman “B” Team came up a bit short against Hightower, but the defense put up a great performance causing four (4) turnovers. Brendan Z had two interceptions. Malik W had an interception as well; Heath J recovered a fumble. NewsFix KIAH 5:49 p.m. CDT, September 8, 2012
