In 2005, the makers of Minute Maid and the Houston Astros announced the Grand Slam For Youth Baseball (GSFYB)
Scholarship Program to assist greater Houston-area high school senior boys and girls with college expenses. Since the scholarship program inception, GSFYB has given more than 150 scholarships to Houston area high school seniors. Fifty-two of these scholarships were first-generation recipients.
Qualifications for Application
A scholarship applicant must:
• reside in the Greater Houston Area which is defined as the region where Houston Astros’ games are broadcast
• graduate from a public or private secondary school by June 15, 2013;
• provide evidence of admission to a post-secondary college or university, including, but not limited to, a junior
or community college, in the United States or a United States territory, as well as acceptance of that admission;
• complete and submit application along with two adult recommendations by the set deadline;
• complete a personal interview with the Grand Slam For Youth Baseball scholarship selection committee if
selected as a semifinalist
• have participated in an organized youth baseball or softball program which could include but is not limited to
T-ball, Little League, Pony League, Church Leagues, YMCA or Boys and Girls Club instructional Leagues,
City Sponsored Leagues, Select Teams. Elementary, Middle School or High School Teams, etc.
• not be a recruited prospective student athlete. Specifically, applicant is not eligible for this scholarship if 1)
applicant has been provided an official visit to an institution; 2) applicant, his/her parent(s), relative(s) or legal guardian(s) have
a) any arranged, in-person, off-campus encounters; or
b) any telephone contact on more than one occasion; with any representative of any institution for the
purpose of athletic recruitment
3) applicant has been issued a National Letter of Intent or has received an institution’s written offer of athletic related
financial aid
The completed application package must be postmarked no later than
Wednesday, May 8, 2013 if returned by mail.
The completed application package may be hand-delivered to the Union Station reception desk at
Minute Maid Park no later than 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013
The completed application package may be submitted after February 1, 2013
