ELKINS BEGINS TO STRUGGLE
Elkins flew into district play with a FBISD-best 19-2 record. With two losses in their first three district games, the Knights have not carried over that success.
Their only win came Friday by one point over Kempner. The Knights played without four key players, including regular starter Branford Jones. Jones (concussion) sat out Monday’s loss to Dulles, too, and likely will miss their next game against Travis.
Coach Albert Thomas said there is reason for concern.
“Part of it is not having Branford, but that’s not all of it,” Thomas said. “We may have had it too easy too early. They forgot what it takes to get it done. We have to recommit ourselves. Otherwise it’s going to happen for us in this district.”
