Elkins was the last team to beat Bush last season.
The Broncos went on to win their final 14 games en route to the Class 5A state championship. The Knights dropped a disappointing third-round playoff game and were left with a lot of questions.
"If anything, you just wonder if you could have gotten past a certain point, could you have done the same thing?" Elkins coach Albert Thomas said. "It definitely made us wonder how good we were.
"We just didn't make a break here or there to continue on."
The most frustrating part was how the Knights exited the postseason – again.
They took on Travis, which they defeated twice during District 23-5A play, and lost 56-51 in the regional quarterfinals. In the 2007-08 season, they beat Dulles twice only to lose to it in the playoffs.
And that year, the Viking went on to the state final.
"It was a bitter pill to swallow," Thomas said. "That was the second time we'd been in that situation, so we need to figure out how to get over that hump. But it's tough when you have to try to beat a very good team three times."
They'll attempt to get it done with the same formula as last season – five guards who get up and down the floor, play hard and shoot well....READ MORE
