Perhaps the best season in Austin High School girls basketball history got better this week with the release of the 23-5A All-District selections.
Junior guard Nicole Blaskowsky was named the district's MVP not long after helping the Lady Bulldogs qualify for the playoffs for the first time. Blaskowsky averaged 19.3 points and shot 57 percent from the field. The Iowa State commit scored a career-high 40 points in a late season victory against Kempner that made the Lady Bulldogs' first trip to the postseason almost a sure thing.
Elkins senior Donielle Breaux was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Elkins' coach Willie Yarber was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Knights from a 5-14 non-district record to a share of the 23-5A title with Hightower. Hightower earned a couple of awards, too. Tyler Gilbert was named the district's Defensive Player of the Year, and Jasmine Prophet was named Newcomer of the Year....READ MORE
