This week, the Elkins High School Library joins libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide in celebrating National Library Week, a time to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.
Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources. Often the heart of our school, the library is deeply committed to our students’ lives, work and success. Our library is a trusted place which provides assistance in successfully researching an assigned or personal topic using books, databases and websites. In addition, the Library has a large collection of current best sellers and classics geared toward the interests of our students. “Service to the Elkins community has always been the focus of the library,” said Mary Font, Elkins Librarian. “While this aspect has never changed, our library has grown and evolved in how we provide for the needs of every student in our school.” First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. For more information, visit the Elkins Library, call 281-634-2659 or see the library’s Web site at http://elkinsknightwire.weebly.com/library.html . Libraries hours are 7:55 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Tonight the FBISD Board of Trustees will recognize Elkins High School staff members - Jennifer Longoria, Nurse; June Tomlin, Athletic Trainer; and Maxine Reeves, Clinic Assistant - as the Professional Employees of the Month for April 2013. This exceptional Elkins team is known for their positive attitude and dedicated professionalism in the way they provide expert care to students and staff members. They are very compassionate and caring individuals who work together as a dynamic team to serve the Elkins Community. Their dedication and team work has earned them the respect of their co-workers and the recognition of the Employee of the Month Committee. Please help us recognize and congratulate Jennifer Longoria, June Tomlin, and Maxine Reeves. Erica Nigrelli will be offering a few words of appreciation after the presentation. Come out and support Elkins, Erica and, of course, E’s Angels! The meeting will be in the Administration Building at 16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, Texas.
In honor of the anonymous blood donors who provided the blood Mrs. Nigrelli received on February 15th, Elkins is dedicating the annual spring student and community blood drive to Team Nigrelli. Be a hero to someone by giving blood on Friday, April 12th from 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Parents, staff and community members are welcome to participate by giving this “gift of life." Anyone 17 years of age and older, weighing at least 115 lbs and in general good health may be able to donate. To sign up to donate, please contact [email protected] All students must be registered by Wednesday, April 10th. The clinic will distribute blood drive student passes to teachers. On Friday, April 12th, students will check into class and pick up their pass. Students will not be counted absent if leaving class with the clinic blood drive pass.
