At the October 20 Board meeting, we shared our proposal for district-wide feeder patterns. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings we held two Community Dialogue meetings at which we shared detailed information about the proposal and asked for community feedback. Nearly 1,000 community members attended the Community Dialogue meetings, which tells me the FBISD family is highly interested and engaged in our work.
Ensure your voice is heardIf you were unable to attend a meeting this week, it is important that you view the presentation and complete the questionnaire online to ensure your voice is heard. If you want to provide additional feedback after attending one of the community dialogue meetings, you may also complete the questionnaire online.
We are considering changes that will affect our community for years to come, so your voice matters. The Community Dialogue presentation and questionnaire are available at www.fortbendisd.com. The website also includes detailed information about the proposed feeder structure, along with answers to questions that have been asked at the Community Dialogue meetings, and those that have been submitted via email or Chat with Charles. We will continue to update the frequently asked question (FAQ) list throughout the process.
Improving student achievement at all schoolsAs superintendent of this outstanding district, I want to assure you that we will give full consideration to all feedback received. I also want you to know that we are dedicated to serving the needs of each and every student in FBISD – regardless of which school they attend. During the past year, we have made significant investments designed to raise student achievement at all schools, with an even greater investment at schools that have been underperforming. We are already beginning to see that investment pay off. We want any parent in FBISD to feel confident in the learning environment and school climate at any school to which their home is zoned – that is an ongoing focus in which we want you to hold us accountable.
Change is difficult, and we know the proposed feeder patterns will have an impact on our community. Some neighborhoods will be affected more than others, so we want to hear your thoughts and concerns. We also know that you hold us accountable for being good stewards of district resources – you want us to get the best return on investments of your tax dollars. That is why feeder pattern alignment is so important. The proposed changes will help us address enrollment growth by using existing facilities in a more effective manner. It’s important that we also keep our eyes on both areas of accountability – high student achievement and fiscal accountability.
Looking aheadBetween now and January, I will continue to provide regular updates on our work. We will also keep our website up-to-date regarding any new plans or revisions to proposed plans. We are dedicated to making decisions with transparency and in collaboration with the community we serve. As always, I value your time, attention to these important matters, and, most importantly, your desire to keep FBISD great!
