The Teacher of the Year judges have reviewed the 25 Rookie of the Year applications submitted by principals and selected the top three Elementary and top three Secondary Rookies. These six exceptional first-year teachers will be recognized, along with our campus Teachers of the Year, at the Teacher of the Year Banquet on April 28 at the Marriott Sugar Land Town Square Hotel. (Please note: we do not name a winner from each of these groups—but recognize all six at the banquet.)
District Elementary Rookies:

Margaret ‘Meg’ Pickert from Schiff Elementary
Elizabeth Carney from Seguin Elementary
District Secondary Rookies:
Michael Tufariello from Hodges Bend Middle
Chelsea Larsen from Elkins High
Chrissie Hutton from Travis High
Coach Larsen teaches freshman English and is the Girls Soccer Head Coach and the Freshman Volleyball Coach. She is an Elkins graduate who earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature degree from University of Houston (Main) and a Juris Doctorate from University of Houston Law School. Coach Larsen served as the Elkins Resident Substitute for ’09 –’10 while finishing her requirements to earn her teaching certificate. She is married to an Elkins graduate and has 2 sons.☺ Her interests include: family, little league, reading, cooking, traveling, coaching and watching sports, and REST!!!
Coach Larsen remarks, “It’s such a pleasure to be teaching at Elkins. I have a lot of fond memories here as a student and wish to create more as an educator. The Rookie of the Year award is such an honor since there are many other deserving new teachers. Thanks to my Mentor and the entire English Department for all their help and advice!!”
