On STAAR EOC Testing Days: Juniors & Seniors are scheduled to report to their 4th period class at 10:30 am.
The application window for these three academies will close on Friday, April 12. The application is available on the FBISD website under Departments/Academics/Academies http://www.fortbendisd.com/departments/academics/academies.
The other high school academies (Medical, Math and Science, Global Studies) are full and are NOT taking applications. On Tuesday, March 26th @ 6:30 in the library, Vivian Ellis with HCC will be here to present College Now information to 10th and 11th parents. Students are encouraged to attend as well. The Dual Credit program provides high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to take college courses to receive both college and high school credit. This program is designed to increase college access for students while allowing them to get a head start on core academic courses transferable to colleges and universities.
Dual Credit courses help students make a seamless transition from high school to college. Dual credit also allows students to acquire college hours before completing high school. Students learn what college instructors expect in college level courses while still in their familiar high school surroundings. The goal of dual credit courses is to provide students with the confidence to succeed at the college level when they enter the college or university of their choice. Testing season is in full swing here at Elkins High School and we have a lot going on this spring! In accordance with the state of Texas we have two different testing systems being administered this spring in high school; our juniors and seniors fall under the TAKS requirements and our sophomores and freshman fall under the STAAR EOC system for graduation requirements. The attached file will outline all of the upcoming testing dates with information as to how this will affect your student and important information to consider on these testing days. On STAAR EOC Testing Days: Juniors & Seniors are scheduled to report to their 4th period class at 10:30 am. On TAKS Testing Days: Seniors are scheduled to report to their 4th period class at 10:30am. Freshmen & Sophomores will follow a normal bell schedule Testing Reminders for Students/Parents ü In order to meet test security requirements, parents will not be allowed to visit classrooms or drop off lunches. Please encourage your child to pay attention in class, to complete all of their assignments, and to attend after school tutorials, especially if it is a teacher recommendation. In addition, please help make sure that your child arrives each testing day on time with a sack lunch and has had sufficient rest and a good breakfast in order to be successful. ü Remember that STAAR is a timed 4 hour test! ü Students are expected to bring a fiction book to read (NO Kindle’s or E-Readers) at the conclusion of their testing. (Textbooks, non-fiction books or homework will not be permitted.) ü Music devices, cell phones, data storage devices, video games, or cameras are NOT permitted. Students in violation will receive ‘no credit’ on their state assessments and are subject to disciplinary action. ü Non-Testing students will report to regular classes. Many classes are relocated for testing, so students need to remember where their classes will meet. Signs will be posted to assist with the relocation of classes. Important Notes Ø Student Rosters with testing locations will be posted in the Commons and at the front office prior to testing day. Ø Students involved in testing will need to eat a good breakfast on testing dates. NO SNACKS are provided. Students may bring bottled water to keep under their desk. Ø Students involved in testing will eat lunch in the testing room. We are recommending that ALL students testing bring a sack lunch to school on testing days. Fort Bend ISD Cell Phone Policy (FNCE-R) On State Testing Days All telecommunications devices (such as cell phones, pagers, PDA’s) should be either in your locker or at the front of the testing room (turned off and out of sight). If you are found with one at any time you are in the testing room (while you are actively testing or have turned in your test and are waiting to be dismissed from the testing room) it will be immediately confiscated. Our test will be marked “Other,” which means that it will not be scored and you will miss the opportunity to take and pass this TAKS test. If your device is confiscated, it will be turned over to the appropriate administrator and there will be a $15.00 fee to get it back. Unique consequence, even if first overall offense: Device confiscated by campus administrator and turned over to the appropriate administrator. Students/Parents will be required to pay the $15.00 administrative fee for its return.
Prior to Spring Break, FBISD Police Officer Jenny Robles received news that she would need dialysis multiple times per week. In an effort to support her and to help offset the costs associated with that ongoing process, our police department and Elkins High School have coordinated a benefit blood drive in her name. Please donate blood on Thursday, March 21, 2013 between 8:30am and 3:30pm at Elkins High School. Two Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center motor coaches will be on site to receive donations. Each one of our donations is critical in helping Officer Robles through this difficult time. Contact Lt. George Holub Jr. at the Fort Bend ISD Police Department 281-634-5508 [email protected] or follow the directions below to register. Step 1: Click on https://www.commitforlife.org/gcrbc/login.php to register after which you will receive an e-mail with a link to set- up your appointment Step 2: Enter sponsor code 6450. Thank you for generously giving this precious gift of life.
Shout out & thank you to Elkins Trainer June Tomlin during National Athletic Training Month3/8/2013 Elkins is extremely lucky to have June Tomlin our AWESOME trainer here on campus. June goes above and beyond on a daily basis for EVERY student here on campus. We are extremely grateful to work with such an exceptional person. June's dedication to the staff and students is something that no other campus in Fort Bend ISD will ever know. To have someone that truly cares about the students is a blessing. June has given up many hours with her own family to take students to the hospital, schedule appointments for the athletes, and/or stay late to do therapy on athletes that otherwise might not be able to play. June responds quickly to any clinic call for assistance, and doesn’t hesitate to offer assistance when needed.
Too often we pass up the opportunity to thank someone or tell them how much we appreciate them, so at this time we would like to say THANK YOU to June for everything you do. We appreciate you, your compassion and your dedication to Elkins High School. Separate we are good, but together we are AWESOME! Thank you for being YOU! -- Written by Jennifer Longoria on behalf of all of the EHS family.
