Credit Check / course selection
- 26 credits required for Texas public colleges or universities or Waiver (22 credit option with written approval from your counselor)
- Plan for summer school, night school, online courses, CBE, etc
- Change schedule now for next year to accommodate failing/missing credits
Required in order to graduate and “walk”
Transcripts requests – complete form with name of college and address, give to the registrar.
GO Center – next to the Attendance Office during lunch.
Be aware of deadlines! “Postmarked or received by” pay attention!
Letters of Recommendation.
1. Most colleges do not require a letter.
2. Teachers are your best source for an accurate picture of your work ethic and personality.
3. If you do need a Counselor letter for a college or scholarship, provide:
a. Resume and Personal Information Sheet
b. Stamped / addressed envelope (8 x 5 or larger - 2-3 stamps)
c. Forms and other documents
d. Form for transcript to be sent – signed by you
Financial Aid: Must complete the FAFSA
Scholarship information is on KNIGHTWIRE and posted outside of the GO Center and Room 402.
NCAA Eligibility Standards – athletes must register

At this time online recommendations or transcripts are not possible.
Start applying around September 1, goal to complete all by Thanksgiving or earlier!
Military Interest: The ASVAB is given twice a year at Elkins and is helpful when determining your interests and abilities. It is a requirement for anyone entering the military.
Career Colleges and Training Programs: Local colleges offer many career training options.
